Like other racing partnerships formed over the years, Blue Tarp Stables came to life when long—time friends and horseplayers, Evan Conravey and Tom O’Keefe, decided to turn “bar talk” into reality in November 2016. Sitting in an off-track betting parlor in Covington, LA, one day not too long after another storm had wreaked its havoc on the area, Evan loudly announced, “if we’re ever going to do this, we’re calling it Blue Tarp Stables because every time we get hit, there’s one of those things draped over just about everyone’s house.” Hearing that, Tom said, “You’re on,” and that night formed Blue Tarp Stables, LLC, and the next day created our beloved logo. Numerous horses, winners and groups later, Blue Tarp has emerged as a popular and friendly force in the racing venues of Fair Grounds, Churchill Downs, Keeneland and others, and has won races at nine different racetracks to date.
